Brandon manager Steve Cook left the Second Division club this morning "by mutual consent".

Cook took over after Adam Furness left for Esh Winning during the summer, and decided to quit after Brandon drew 1-1 with Horden last Saturday, to leave them second bottom of the table, six points adrift of safety.

Cook said; "It is a club with some dedicated people who work tirelessly, I wish the club every success in the future.

"I have operated with no budget and with the intent of formalising a club structure that works. I believe the club now has this. Results haven't corresponded with the quality of our play at times. The young, inexperienced squad was learning all the time - I guess not fast enough. The group of players have shown a tremendous commitment to the cause up till now and I have thanked them for their efforts."

Brandon don't have a midweek game, but their next game couldn't be tougher, away to leaders Newton Aycliffe.

Cook's assistant, Vince Kirkup, is still at the club, and he could be in charge at the weekend.
