Guiseley 6 Shildon 0.

Shildon manager Danny Moore felt that his team didn’t deserve to concede six in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Nethermoor.

The Railwaymen, the last Northern League team left in the competition, frustrated the National League side for an hour, and could even have taken the lead themselves.

They were just starting to dream of a replay when Guiseley managed to break through, and when Shildon had defender Kyle May dismissed in the build-up for the third goal, it was a matter of damage limitation after that.

“At 0-0, there was only one team that was trying to play football – ourselves,” said Moore. “We had the better chances in the first half, and could have gone into half time in the lead. We had them on the ropes in the first half, but we couldn’t quite nick the lead to give us something to hang on to.

“But once they went 2-0 up and we had a man sent off, then that was it. I certainly don’t think we deserved to lose 6-0 in the end. I can’t complain about the result, but I can about the scoreline.

“They were a very direct team, that played the ball quickly from back to front. But they knew that we’d given them a game, and their fans clapped us off the pitch at the end.

“I’m very proud of the team for the run we’ve had. We won five matches, enjoyed some glory, and made some money for the club.”

Shildon gave as good as they got in the first half, and they had the best chance of the half on 30 minutes but Lewis Dodds couldn’t quite the force the ball past Guiseley keeper Jonathan Maxted from a few yards.

Mike Fondop put Guiseley into the lead on 52 minutes from a William Hatfield pass, then Fondop beat three defenders and set up Andrew Haworth to chip Shildon keeper Nick Liversedge.

Guiseley then got a penalty when Kyle May pulled down Fondop and was red carded, and John Rooney scored from the spot.

After that, Shildon were forced back, and Hatfield got the fourth in a goalmouth scramble on 71 minutes. Hatfield scored another and in stoppage time Fondop made it 6-0 with a lob over Liversedge.
