Stockton need just one win from three matches to win promotion from the ENL Second Division after they won 3-1 at Blyth Town last night.

Stockton took the lead after 8 minutes with a left foot shot by Max Craggs, but Blyth levelled just before half time through Malky Morien.

Craggs restored Stockton’s lead with a header on 55 minutes , and Tony Johnson wrapped it up in stoppage time.

In the other second division game, fourth placed Heaton Stannington drew 0-0 with Whickham, which means that they are four points behind the top three with four games remaining.

In the first division, third placed Morpeth kept their title hopes alive by beating Penrith 3-0.

They took the lead on 33 minutes with a shot by Ben Sayer, then Michael Hall doubled the lead with a header before half time. They stayed on top in the second half, and Liam Henderson scored a third with five minutes left.

The referee had to be replaced early in the game because of injury, and a volunteer ran the line.

Newton Aycliffe drew 3-3 at Newcastle Benfield. Aycliffe were twice in the lead with goals by Jamie Owens and Stuart Banks, with first Dylan McEvoy and then Paul Brayson replying.

Benfield then took the lead through Lewis Scorgie, but Owens grabbed a deserved point for Aycliffe.

Darlo reserves were beaten 3-2 at Cleator Moor Celtic in the Wearside League.
