Hebburn have warned that they could resign from the EBAC Northern League at the end of the season because the club is “unsustainable”.

The club is struggling to cover even its most basic costs because of low revenue, and it could resign from the league at the end of the season following 28 years’ membership.

Manager Scott Oliver said; “We’re not getting much revenue into the club at all.

“For our last home game, we had just 16 paying spectators, and on the same day, just a few miles away, South Shields had 922 watching them.

“We have stopped paying expenses to players, we can’t afford to repair our floodlights, and we need a new mower to cut the grass on the field. There are problems with our floodlights, which are 25 years old.

“We have little bits of sponsorship, but nothing significant. We share the clubhouse at Hebburn with other sports, but we don’t receive any revenue from that because it is a separate Sports and Social club.

“We are in serious danger of leaving the Northern League. We want to keep the club going, but we can’t afford to play at Northern League level, in fact, the volunteers are paying essential costs out of their own pockets.

“So if nothing changes in the next few weeks, then we will be asking ourselves what will be the point in continuing, and we will resign from the league at the end of the season if necessary.

“We’re living from week to week, and it’s tough making ends meet.”
