Shildon are through to the last eight of the Durham Challenge Cup after winning their local derby by 2-0 at West Auckland tonight.

Lewis Dodds had an effort cleared off the West line in the first half and Amar Purewal missed a good chance before Lewis Wing put Shildon into the lead on 55 minutes.West threw everything forward looking for the equaliser, but Wing made sure with the second in the closing minutes.

Consett beat Easington 7-3 to record their fifth straight win.

Consett took a 4th minute lead with a Max Craggs penalty after Michael Sweet was fouled, then Adam Knowles beat four defenders and scored the second.

But Easington responded with a header by Joe Kerridge, then Reece Kenney scored direct from a free kick.

Consett went back in front when Jordan Lavery’s shot was spilled, and Michael Sweet scored from the rebound. But Easington levelled again when Kerridge broke away and scored.

Sweet crossed for Dan Hawkins to fire home to put Consett 4-3 up before half time, and midway through the second half Easington defender Dan Martin put the ball into his own net for the fifth. Sweet fired the sixth , and Lewis Teasdale scored the seventh in the last minute Holders Newton Aycliffe beat Brandon 3-1 at Moore Lane.

Zak Boagey fired them in front early in the second half, but Brandon equalised through Joe Calvert.

However, Scott Howes and then Josh Gray scored in the space of a few minutes to give Aycliffe victory.

In the Northern League, Bishop Auckland beat Ashington with a stoppage time goal.

Bishops were well on top in the first half, but couldn’t create several good chances and that was the same story in the second half until sub Jonathan Wright managed to force the ball home in the second minute of stoppage time.

Whitley Bay easily won 4-0 at bottom club Chester-le-Street.

Whitley bay took the lead when Callum Patton crossed from the right for his brother Kyle to score from a few yards, then just before half time Alex Kempster scored the second from a Callum Patton pass. Callum Patton then fired the third into the top corner from the edge of the box, and recent signing Thibault Charmey tapped in the fourth from a Kempster assist.

In the second division, Northallerton beat second bottom Darlington RA 2-0 with second half goals by Nicky Martin and Stephen Cheeseman.
