Consett were knocked out of the FA Cup by an own goal against Curzon Ashton at Belle View last night.

Curzon had the first chance when Niall Cummins was put through, but Consett keeper Chris Elliott denied him, and Elliott pulled off a great save on 30 minutes from a powerful Luke Clark shot.

Elliott denied Curzon again on 35 minutes with another great stop from a Cummins header.

The game turned against Consett at the start of the second half. Danny Craggs was dismissed for violent conduct on 55 minutes, and within two minutes Curzon went a goal up when Jordan Wright hit the post and the ball struck Consett defender Clark Kay and bounced into the net.

But despite their disadvantage, Consett kept working hard and caused Curzon a couple of anxious moments, with Elliott even joining his attack at one point.

In the EBAC Northern League, Newton Aycliffe hammered West Allotment 8-1 to go third in the table.

Aycliffe took an early lead when Dennis Knight burst through and fired into the bottom corner, and they went 2-0 up on 9 minutes when a clearance from inside the Allotment box rebounded off John Campbell and into the net. Ashley Coffey then made it 3-0 with a header, and Paul Garthwaite headed the fourth.

John Campbell then rounded Dale Bannon for the fifth before half time, and on the hour he ran through and slotted in the sixth. Dale Pearson pulled a goal back from the spot, but Knight and Coffey added further goals in the last ten minutes.

Bishop Auckland were held to a goalless draw at home by Whitley Bay.

There wasn’t much in the game in the first half, but Whitley were reduced to ten men just after half time when Angelos Eleftheriadis was dismissed for a late challenge on Michael Hoganson. Bishops nearly took advantage when James Fairley hit the post, and in stoppage time, Andy Johnson had an effort cleared off the line, and Ian Ward’s header was saved.

Bottom club West Auckland were beaten 4-1 at home by South Shields, who are now three points clear at the top.

Shields went in front on 16 minutes when Carl Finnigan scored from a David Palmer pass, then after Carson hit the bar, Shields went 2-0 up when Palmer fired in off the post. They scored another just on half time through a Finnigan penalty, awarded for handball.

West pulled a goal back midway through the second half through Darren Richardson, but former West player Robbie Briggs made it 4-1 with a 25 yard free kick near the end.

Jarrow Roofing beat nine man Sunderland RCA 1-0.

Ross Preston hit the bar for Roofing after 15 minutes , and at the start of the second half, the RCA had Danny Lay sent off for elbowing an opponent, and then Reece Noble for a foul on Roofing keeper Andy Jennison. Paul Chow then put Roofing into the lead in a goalmouth scramble.

In the second division, Brandon had a good 2-1 away win at promotion chasing Whickham, with goals by Kieran Duffy-Weekes and Vince Gash.
