Dunston UTS are hoping to clinch a quarter final place in the Vase quarter finals when they host Ashford United in their fifth round replay this afternoon.

Dunston, who won the competition four seasons ago, have played their last three ties on artificial surfaces, and now they’re focused on clinching a quarter final tie away to Salisbury.

Manager Billy Irwin knows that Dunston need to be at their best, and he said; “We need to play like we did in the second half last week at their place to get through. We weren’t in the game much in the first half hour, but we steadily got to grips with them.”

Dunston have been to the fifth round in the last two seasons. They beat Brightlingsea Regent two seasons ago, but lost to Glossop in a replay at the UTS stadium.

Striker Steve Goddard is added to the Dunston squad today.

Morpeth travelled all the way down on Friday afternoon to Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire for their tie.

The Northumbrians, who beat holders North Shields last Monday, lost at this stage two seasons ago, and Morpeth manager Nick Gray said; “I went to watch them in midweek. They are quick up front and have a good play maker, but it was worth watching them. We will prepare as best we can given the short time we have had to know about the game, but the lads are focused to try and take the club to the furthest we have been in the Vase. We reached the last sixteen two years ago, and we want to go one step further now. Hopefully we have learned from our defeat at Eastbourne on that occasion.”

Midfielder Jordan Fry will have a fitness test, but David Hiftle and Chris Jewels are both missing.

Berkhamsted are currently sixth in the South Midlands League.
