Morpeth knocked Vase holders North Shields out of this season’s competition with a 2-0 victory tonight, even though they played more than half the game with ten men.
North Shields had the wind at their backs in the first half, and were awarded a penalty following an infringement by Morpeth midfielder Keith Graydon, who was sent off.
However, Morpeth keeper Karl Dryden came to his side’s rescue by saving the spot kick from Greg Bainbridge.
Seven minutes after half time, Sean Taylor fired into the top corner to give Morpeth the lead, and after Chris Swailes headed just over the Shields bar, Lee McAndrew dribbled through the Shields defence and scored the second.
