Marske United and North Shields both went out of the FA Cup to EvoStik League sides.

Marske United lost 1-0 at Lancaster.

The EvoStik League side missed a couple of good chances early on, but they took the lead when a shot hit the post and went into the net off Marske keeper Robbie Deane.

Liam O’Sullivan put a good chance over the bar for Marske at the start of the second half, and they created more opportunities as they built up the pressure. They had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down late in the game when they claimed that Sam Garvie was brought down, and then they had defender Thomas Bott sent off for his second yellow.

North Shields lost 2-0 against ten man Kendal. Both sides had chances before Kendal were reduced to ten men, when Sam Bailey was red carded for a last man foul. But despite their man disadvantage, Kendal took the lead with a long range shot by Craig Carney, and Shields had their chances to equalise before Carney scored another right at the end.

In the EBAC Northern League, West Auckland picked up their first point of the season with a dogged 0-0 draw at home to Dunston UTS.

West held their own in the first half and had a couple of chances, as did Dunston at the other end.

Andy Bulford headed just over for Dunston at the start of the second half, then former West player Steve Richardson went close. But West battled back, and Anthony Hume just missed from a Lee Farrington pass. West held on against some strong late pressure when in previous games they had conceded.

Washington beat Jarrow Roofing 4-2 in their local derby to go third.

Washington hit the woodwork twice in the first half, and they took the lead just before half time, when Johnny Butler scored from a corner. Michael Coghlan made it 2-0 with a free kick soon after the break, but John Campbell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. Joe Walton restored Washington’s two goal lead with an overhead kick, but Michael Riley pulled another back from 15 yards. Washington recovered though and went 4-2 up through Butler Whickham beat Crook 3-0 to go second in the Division Two table, with goals by Mick Pattison (2) and Nick Hay.
