FA Vase finalists North Shields beat Whitley Bay 3-0 in front of a 1,400 crowd, the highest attendance in the league this season.

Shields took an early lead when a shot by Dean Holmes was parried by the Whitley keeper for Gareth Bainbridge to score from the loose ball.

It was 2-0 on 38 minutes when Bainbridge latched on to a long ball and easily scored the second, and just before half time he completed his hat trick with a strike into the top corner of the net.

West Allotment are still in relegation trouble after they were easily beaten 5-0 at home by Durham City last night.

City took the lead when Stephen Stewart broke through on the right and fired past Allotment keeper Ryan Beal, then Callum Patton made it 2-0 with a shot on the turn.

Kyle Fryatt then scored an excellent goal, dribbling past several players and curling the ball past the keeper.

In the second half, Walid Abeid fired the fourth, and Jonny Davis scored the fifth from 20 yards to complete an emphatic win for Durham, and leave Allotment third bottom, equal on points with Billingham Synthonia but with a worse goal difference.

In the second division, Heaton Stannington won 1-0 at Northallerton.
