Shildon manager Gary Forrest believes that he has three young players in his team who will play a key part in the race for the title.

Forrest was delighted that his team won their clash against Saturday’s pre-match leaders, North Shields, and he said that one of the reasons for his team’s victory was the form of midfielders Sam Hodgson and Billy Greulich-Smith and striker Ben Wood.

“People talk about some of the young players in the league, but I don’t think our three get the recognition they deserve,” he said.

“Sam totally ran the game at North Shields last Saturday, he was in control throughout. His decision-making and passing were superb, and he used the ball well.

“Billy scored with a great header. His workrate is fantastic, and his attitude is top drawer. I know for a fact that he will give 100 per cent, and if he has anything left, then he’ll give that as well.

“Ben has had an outstanding season. His workrate is first class and his box-to box play is fantastic. People used to doubt his ability to graft, but I don’t have any at all.”

Shildon have a tricky game away to managerless Ashington, who are on the fringe of the relegation battle, today.

Meanwhile off the field, the club has called an extraordinary AGM on February 12th to vote on a resolution on whether to redevelop Dean Street, or to move half a mile to a new ground at Sunnydale Leisure Centre.

The club has circulated shareholders, and asked them to take such factors as grant aid, 3G facilities and the possible sale of Dean Street into account.
