Bishop Auckland 1 1874 Northwich 4 Bishop Auckland could have few grumbles about going out of the FA Vase when they were beaten 4-1 at home by 1874 Northwich at Heritage Park.

The visitors were reduced to ten men just before half time, but they made light of their disadvantage, and showed that they will be strong opponents for other Northern League clubs later in the competition.

After Matt Beadle fired across the face of goal early on, Northwich went ahead when Stuart Wellstead headed in a left wing cross from a few yards, and it got worse for Bishop on 30 minutes when Jamie Tandy’s corner from the right went to the far post, where Matthew Woolley sidefooted in.

Stuart Thompson forced a good save out of Northwich keeper Matthew Conkie, before the full back gave Bishops hope with a screamer into the top corner from 25 yards.

A feisty game came to the boil just on half time when Northwich defender Adam Bayley was red carded for stamping on Andy Johnson, but that didn’t bother the North West Counties League side as they went 3-1 up on 53 minutes when Wellstead’s shot was parried by Scott Pocklington for Mattie Beadle to tap in.

And it was all over on 67 minutes when Wellstead crossed from the right for Beadle to volley home from a few yards.
