West Auckland beat Hartlepool, whose manager Paul Murray was in the crowd, 2-1 at the Seagrave Stadium thanks to a late goal in the Durham Challenge Cup.

West went close early on when Steve Richardson broke clear, but his shot was saved by the Hartlepool keeper, then Marlon Harewood had a good opportunity for Pools, but Neil Pattinson got in a timely interception. Luke Carr beat three men and fired wide, while Harwood had another good chance just a few yards out, but dallied too long and a defender intercepted.

After Alex Francis had a header saved, West took the lead when Ian Ward flicked on a long clearance for Richardson to break away and beat James Montgomery in the Hartlepool goal.

Harewood made up for his earlier misses when he ran through and fired past Dan Lowson soon after the restart for the equaliser.

West’s Dennis Knight was unlucky to see a shot cleared off the line before Alex Francis got the winner with a free kick into the top corner from 35 yards.

Wearside League Easington came back from 3-1 down to win 7-3 at Northern League South Shields.

South Shields scored twice in a minute early on, both goals being scored by Paul Kane , but David Paul pulled a goal back. However, Kane completed his hat trick just on half time. Easington hit back at the start of the second half and went 4-3 up with three goals in ten minutes from Brett Gilliatt, Bryan Norton and James Page. Shields then had Lee Maitland sent off for allegedly spitting at an opponent, and he was quickly followed by Barrie Smith for aiming a kick at an opponent. David Paul added two more to complete his hat trick, with Kyle Morris scoring a seventh.

Tow Law twice led at Jarrow Roofing before going down 6-2 .

Lawyers led twice with gaols by Scott Duggan and Luke Parkinson, but John Campbell cancelled them out in turn, his second goal coming in the dying seconds of the 90. Campbell completed his hat trick in extra time, with former Tow Law player Lewis Teasdale also scoring a hat trick.

Durham easily beat Annfield Plain 6-1. Durham took an early lead against Annfield Plain through Callum Munro, and Callum Patton added a second on the half hour mark. Patton then got a third from the spot just on half time. Ryan Noble made it 4-0 from a free kick, with Nick Allen and Moussa Bakhti getting the others. Dan Young scored a late consolation for Annfield Plain.

Washington pulled off a shock by beating Dunston UTS 5-2, after Andy Bulford put UTS ahead. James Fairley (2). Adam McGuinness, Chris Winn and Mark Waite scored for Washington. Scott Fenwick scored the other goal for Dunston, who had their keeper Liam Connell sent off.

Hebburn’s top scorer Channon North scored the only goal of the game for them against Seaham Red Star .
