Shildon set up an FA Cup second qualifying round tie against Stalybridge with a great away win at Whitby tonight.

Shildon were well on top in the first half. They created some good chances early on, and missed a penalty when Micky Rae was brought down, but his penalty was weak and comfortably saved by Whitby keeper Shane Bland.

Shildon deservedly took the lead when Billy Greulich-Smith scored in a goalmouth scramble, but Whitby came more into the game, and Dave McTiernan levelled for the home side just on half time.

Shildon had a couple of chances at the start of the second half, and Whitby hit the bar at the other end, before Ben Wood broke down the right for Shildon, and crossed for Rae to score the winner with an overhead kick. They could have added further goals before the end, but Bland pulled off some good saves.

In the ENL, Billingham Synthonia picked up three valuable points against West Allotment at Central Avenue.

Kris Hughes was left unmarked to score from a right wing cross, and they scored the second on 22 minutes when Hughes crossed for Nathan Porritt to quickly control and chip over the stranded keeper. Porritt scored a third from the spot near the end.

Bedlington are now four points clear at the top after beating third placed Morpeth 4-1.

Lee Scott and Jordan Nellis scored in the first 25 minutes for Bedlington, with Nellis adding a third in the second half. Michael Chilton pulled a goal back, but Sam Walton scored another near the end.

In the Durham Challenge Cup, Billingham Town won 4-1 at Crook Town, who took the lead through Kallum Holbrook. But Town hit back with goals by Danny Ballantyne, Andy Lambert (2) and a Chris Renshaw own goal. Former Newton Aycliffe manager Adrian Webster made his debut for Crook.

Norton won 3-2 at Newton Aycliffe. Norton took the lead just on half time when Harrison Davies crossed for Marcus Laing to score, but Tom Atkinson levelled for Aycliffe early in the second half.

However, Norton regained the lead when Nicky Martin scored from a rebound, but Connor Lowes equalised. However, Jason Bligh scored the winner for Norton from 25 yards.

Willington thrashed Brandon 7-3 at Hall Lane, with six goals coming in the first half..

Willington went 2-0 up through Matthew Mountain and David Gibson, before Alan West and John Harrison hit back for Brandon. However, Liam Whitworth and Jason White scored twice more for Willington before half time. In the second half, Whitworth ran Brandon ragged by scoring three more, while Craig Roberts scored at the other end.
