West Auckland’s FA Cup hopes were crushed when they were beaten 5-1 at Harrogate Town in their second qualifying round replay last night.

But West caused problems for Harrogate at the start of the second half, getting back to 1-1.

There were few chances on a heavy pitch, with the ball holding up on the heavy surface. The Conference North team took the lead after 40 minutes with a hotly disputed penalty given away by Craig Hubbard that was converted by Luke Dean.

West were much better in the second half, and levelled with a free kick by John Campbell on 65 minutes. However, within a minute Lee Elam headed Harrogate back in front, with Paul Beasley heading a third. Beasley broke away and scored the fourth on 76 minutes, and Chib Chilake made certain on 79. West had sub Paul Garthwaite dismissed for a foul in the dying minutes.

West manager Peter Dixon said: "I thought we were the better side for 70 minutes, but the third goal killed us. "

Billingham Town manager Carl Jarrett said: "We did well to come back from 2-0 down and then conceded three sloppy goals. On chances Dunston deserved it. We need to learn simple things to start picking up points."

Meanwhile in the ENL, Spennymoor’s 100 per cent record is now up to nine matches, but they conceded their first league goal of the campaign after over 750 minutes of football with a 2-1 away win at Ashington.

In a tight first half , Wayne Phillips gave them the lead with a 25 yarder that wrong footed the Ashington keeper. Early in the second half, Steve Richardson made it 2-0 from a rebound after Keith Graydon’s shot was blocked , but Ashington stunned them by scoring through Liam Atkin from a corner. Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley said: "We're delighted with the 3 points at a very difficult place to go especially midweek. The lads put in a tremendous shift in horrendous conditions and thoroughly deserved the victory. Ashington are a good side and will certainly be up there at the end of the season."

A report of Darlington's 4-1 away win at Penrith is on the Darlington FC section of the Northern Echo website.

Shildon had a good 3-2 away win at Celtic Nation, after Danny Richmond put them into the lead early on. Ben Wood scored two goals in as many minutes to give them a 3-0 lead at half time. CN improved in the second half, but could only score through Dean Douglas and Steve Archibald. Shildon manager Gary Forrest said: "It was an excellent win, very good in first half but pitch became a bog in second half and those conditions really don't suit our style of play. Lads dug in very well and we should have killed game off with 4 one on ones we missed in second half."

Bottom club Newton Aycliffe picked up a good point in a 3-3 draw at South Shields, although they led 3-1 at one stage.

Peter Kane gave Shields an early lead, but Stuart Owen immediately levelled for Aycliffe. Former Darlington player Adrian Webster finished off a good move to put Aycliffe into the lead early in the second half, and then Danny Earl chipped the keeper for the third. But Shields pulled a goal back with a Lee Bell penalty, and then Aycliffe had defender Mark Peck dismissed for two yellows. Shields levelled with ten minutes left through Barry Marshall.

Aycliffe manager Allan Oliver said: "I was delighted with the players' reaction afetr last Saturday's defeat by Billingham Town."

Dunston won 5-2 at Billingham Town, thanks to three goals in the last 6 minutes, and now they're up to fourth bottom.

Dunston took an early lead through an Andy Bulford header, and then Chris Swailes scored a second with another header . Nicky Martin pulled a goal back for Town after he ran through the Town defence, and then he levelled at the start of the second half with a shot on the turn. Bulford then hit the post from the spot for Dunston, but Dale Burrell quickly made it 3-2 with a powerful shot, with Lewis Teasdale getting the fourth in a scramble. Steve Preen added a fifth in the last minute.

Dunston manager Billy Irwin said: "It was a much better performance, but we're still not playing as well as we should be. We're playing better up front than we are in defence."

Team Northumbria took the lead at Sunderland RCA with a penalty by Dan Riley, then John Sherlock added another just before half time. Aristote Guerin-Lokonga pulled a goal back for RCA, then Gavin Barton equalised. But TN kept their nerve to score the winner through Ben Sayer. Sunderland RCA manager Neil Hixon said: "Three defensive errors cost us the match. We can't keep having to score three or four goals to win matches."

Team Northumbria manager Paul Johnson said: "A much better work ethic won us the game both in possession and out of it.  It was a good three points against a good home team."

Hebburn stunned Bedlington by taking the lead in their game, Jonny Davis scoring from 25 yards out, but Terriers scored in the space of a few minutes through Lawrence McKenna’s shot and Andrew Leeson’s header. However, Scott Robson pulled Hebburn level, only for Steven Baptist to score with the last kick of the game.

Hebburn manager Paul Bennett said: "I was proud of the players tonight, because they took a very good and experienced team all the way up to the 95th minute. They should be proud of the way they conducted themselves. A great game of football decided in time added on, to time added on."

The game between Consett and Guisborough was postponed because of a floodlight failure.
