Shildon manager Danny Moore says that he is going to bring in at least one new striker to keep their title bid on course.

After going unbeaten in their first 16 league and FA cup games of the season, the Railwaymen have stuttered and lost their unbeaten away league record to league leaders Morpeth, were knocked out of the FA Vase at Marske last Saturday, and were stunned by Willington in the League Cup in midweek. They face a tough away game at Consett this afternoon.

“I won’t accept losing in the manner that we have done in recent games. We were unlucky at Morpeth, probably deserved something at Marske, and we didn’t take our chances against Willington,” said Moore.

“The players showed what they’re capable of against Altrincham in the FA Cup, and in the first two months of the season. We haven’t scored in open play now since we won at Penrith at the start of the month.

“We need a couple of new faces to freshen things up and give us a boost, and I’ve made offers for players at other clubs.”

Moore will choose from a full squad today, except for defender Dominic Curle who is injured, while winger Jack Blackford will have a fitness test.

West Auckland, who are seventh, are at home to Jarrow Roofing.

Defender Jamie Cobain and midfielders Alex Francis and Adam Mitchell are all missing, but defender Dan Parker, midfielder Matty Wade and striker Amar Purewal all return.

Manager Gary Forrest said; “This will be a tough game, but we need to pick up points.”

Bishop Auckland go to Guisborough, to whom they lost 4-2 earlier in the season when they were in the relegation zone, but now they’re sixth from bottom.

Manager Colin Myers should have a full squad to choose from, and he said; “This will be a very tough game as Guisborough are doing really well at the moment.”

Guisborough haven’t lost in three league games.

Newton Aycliffe face bottom club Billingham Synthonia at Moore Lane, needing the points to climb further away from the relegation zone.

However, Aycliffe are without seven players for various reasons, but midfielders Sean Tarling and Andrew Grant-Soulsby return after suspension.

Synners won their first league game of the season last Saturday, and followed that up by beating Esh Winning in the league cup in midweek.

Northallerton are hoping to keep their second division promotion challenge on course at home to Durham City, and they will give striker Chris Dickinson, signed from Billingham Town, his league debut , while Karl Hewitt, Liam Jarvie and Mattie Dixon all return. However, Andrew Shepherd and Shaun Hudson are both out injured.

Durham are without Steven Malloy, Nicky Allen and Ross Simpson, but they are hoping that Callum Smith returns. “It’s a tough game against a good side, but we have nothing to lose,” said manager Olly Hotchkiss We had a great performance midweek so hopefully if we can replicate that it will give us a chance to get a positive result.”

Fourth bottom Chester-le-Street can put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three if they beat Brandon.

Lee Mole, Michael Hepplewhite and Connor Lyons all return to the squad, but six players will have fitness tests. “We are hoping to put another encouraging performance together which will last 90 minutes rather than 45. We are confident going into the game after a recent upturn in points.”

Jordan Blinco makes his debut for Brandon, who have lost their last four league games.

Crook Town are looking for their second successive win at home to West Allotment, and they will be missing defender Ryan Coles because of a hamstring injury, while Joe Spooner returns. Winger Callum Smith is doubtful with a knee injury. “It’s a six pointer for both clubs,” said Crook manager Chris Lax.

Second bottom Darlington RA have a big away game at Ryton and Crawcrook, and manager Peter Mulcaster is hoping to sign some players, because he is without eight of his squad for various reasons.

The RA have collected just one point from their last four league games.
