JOHN CARVER has earned the full respect of the Newcastle United squad and Sammy Ameobi hopes that his first win since being appointed head coach will be the start of many.

Ameobi was a goalscorer in Saturday’s 3-0 victory at Hull City, Carver’s first since being installed as head coach until the end of this season, and the Magpies’ forward believes that the continuity of management can only be a positive in the wake of Alan Pardew’s departure to Crystal Palace last month.

“Obviously JC (John Carver) has been around for hundreds of years at Newcastle,” said Ameobi, whose second half goal came in between Remy Cabella and Yoan Gouffran finishes. “Everyone is very aware of him. Everyone knows him. We can start moving in the right direction now, without any uncertainty.

“Has he changed? Yeah, he's got the power! He has already stamped his authority down on the players. That's what you want from a manager.

“You want a manager who you can respect. That's what he's done.

“We now know we are fully committed to him, and him to us as well, so hopefully in the coming weeks we can start getting some good results.

“At the end of the day, it's the eleven guys on the pitch who have to do the job, whether we have a manager or not. Now we know he's the manager, we are fully committed and can get going in the same direction.”

Ameobi was preferred on the left side of an attacking three to Gouffran, and staked his claim for a run in the team with a fine long-range effort five minutes after the restart at the KC Stadium.

And Ameobi feels, with his contract up at the end of the season, a spell in the starting line-up can be a good opportunity to earn a new deal.

“ I'm running out of my contract at the end of the season,” said Ameobi. ”I'm just happy to be playing. What comes will come, at the end of the day. I'm just taking it game by game.

“Hopefully I can stay in the team and rewards will come from that.”

Newcastle were clinical on Humberside, taking full advantage of a terrible Hull City display which saw the Tigers crumble despite enjoying the greater chances early on.

Defeat piles more pressure on Steve Bruce, while Newcastle eased up the table towards the top-half. But while it is certainly more comfortable on Tyneside, Ameobi warned against complacency with a sizable chunk of the season still to come.

“Both teams were under pressure coming into the game, on losing streaks. We did need the three points,” said the striker.

“It wasn't going to be easy but we knew that, if we put in as much effort as they did, with the squad that we've got, then there's no reason why we couldn't come away with the three points.

“It is a bit more comfortable, but obviously you never what can happen in the Premier League, so we don't take that for granted. We just want to get a run going.”

On his goal, a swerving, dipping effort, Ameobi said: “I just hit it and hoped for the best. That was it, to be honest. I'm happy with it and hopefully I can get some more this season.”
