Newcastle Utd 0 Liverpool 3
ONE point from the last 12 available to Newcastle United is hardly the type of form that will strike fear in the rest of the Premier League, although manager Sam Allardyce should well be getting a little scared himself.
That is exactly the sort of run the Magpies are on, with this latest performance an indication that things are getting worse rather than better on Tyneside - even the announcement of the sponsors' man of the match, Alan Smith, was booed.
Newcastle supporters were left scratching their heads during an opening 23 minutes in which there was no player in a black and white shirt filling the right flank.
It was a situation which infuriated the home support and, regardless of the goals that eventually handed Liverpool the victory, it really failed to improve.
Striker Alan Smith - even with out and out winger James Milner on the bench - was eventually asked to play there, but that failed to thwart the Reds advances.
After Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt had put Liverpool two up, there was finally movement from Milner and a moment of relief from the supporters.
But, quite rightly, that relief turned into further despair when the cries for Milner to enter the fray resulted in the departure of Newcastle's only other natural winger, Charles N'Zogbia. Crazy.
Ryan Babel added Liverpool's third but sandwiched in between were calls of 'You don't know what you're doing' and 'Big Sam for England'.
Hardly ideal for Allardyce after the previous debacle at St James' Park, the 4-1 collapse to Portsmouth.
Where next for Newcastle? Ask owner Mike Ashley. His face was one of disgust and frustration in the directors' box and it's difficult to see him putting up with these sort of displays for much longer.
Liverpool maybe one of the best teams in the country, but they were hardly at their peak. Yet they have still emerged with a comprehensive scoreline against a Newcastle team struggling in all areas.
