DENNIS Wise has already been installed as the favourite to become the next Newcastle United manager amid hardening suggestions that Kevin Keegan has left the club.

Keegan is understood to have parted company with the Magpies after a series of talks with owner Mike Ashley and his associates resulted in a heated argument over the future direction of the club.

Keegan was angry at the sale of James Milner and yesterday's attempts to sell Joey Barton, and was not placated by the deadline-day arrival of Xisco and Nacho Gonzalez.

Assistant Editor, Nigel Burton, talks to Chief Sports Writer, Scott Wilson, about the ongoing speculation that Kevin Keegan has left Newcastle United after an eight-month spell as manager.

A range of sources are claiming that Keegan decided to resign late last night, and while further talks were held this morning, the former England boss is not believed to have changed his mind.

However, Newcastle officials have so far failed to make an official statement on the ongoing situation.

Supporters of the club are currently gathering at St James' Park, with Wise already trading as a 2-1 favourite in most bookmakers' markets on the identity of Newcastle's next boss.

Nobody's as good as Kevin Keegan, nobody, oh God.

I'd love it, really love it, if we got Roy Keane as our next manager.

Shocking!! The fat man with the pint & his cockney mafia should hang their heads in shame. If KK walks then no one will blame him he's being hung out to dry & made to look a fool by people who don't give two hoots about the club. I for one won't set foot inside SJP again, season ticket or not

It seems the only north east club that has yet to realise its potential has (once again) shot itself in the foot.

However well NUFC might do in the league, or however much silverware they might one day win ... one thing remains the same.

After the shameful debacle witnessed by the club supporting one Joey Barton, they will always remain the running joke of the footballing world (and, indeed, further)

Aye, Sunderland don't really have much to boast about at the moment either, they are in a relegation spot already, we should qualify for the Champions League at least with our new signings and Mickey signing a new deal.

" Keegan-is-god"

1 - You're going to have to change your name VERY soon...since he's about to walk out again....and who could blame him?

2 - SAFC's manager has the FULL backing of his board to improve the team step by step which is what he's doing.

Nufc live on the self deluding belief they're a " big club " ( yeah, right... ) who will be in Europe next season ...they say this ever year.

You've done nothing and achieved nothing in 40 years of European footie...and for over HALF A CENTURY in domestic football...they'd only just stopped rationing last time you won something!!

Nope...with Fat Mike ashley at the helm...you're rapidly becoming the Titanic of the NE.

Both SAFC and Boso ahve 2 gooed young managers and improving squads...the mags have bought a bench sitter and an unproven kid while flogging the decent players to bring in cash..which WILL NOT be spent on players.....

You'll be playing in the Fizzy Pop League for the next few years....

If this is ture who can blame him how can a manager be expected to do a job at the club when the club want to do his job for him, their is to much going on behind closed doors that people dont know or hear about which has lead to King Kev leaving.

ha!ha!ha! The Geordie Soap opera has turned up again! When will you lot learn that your;

a) Not a big club and dont have a god given right to success, a big club is steeped in history & tradition, the only thing Newcastle is steeped in is the crap you all talk! Even Alan "The alleged Mesiah" Shearer didnt want to come back!

b) not the best team in the North East, Boro and Sunderland actually play better football and have a far better chance of landing silverware

c) Keegan is not a good manager. Sir John hall was the key to your success in the mid - nineties! England crap! City crap! What has he ever done?!

No doubt you will go and get Steve McLaren, David Pleat or Gary Megson!!! Joke!

Blimey...your mam's fave person was Clive Sinclair, she called you Gordon and you follow nufc....Life certainly dealt you some harsh blows.....and now Keegan is legging it again and you're getting Wise as a puppet manager under the nous of Fat Mike ( I thought it was non alcoholic ) Ashley..... I feel sorry for Nufc..the only man with any integrity is leaving you, and you have left is liars, imbeciles and cheats......

Apparently Mrs. Keegan has been heard in her Marbella villa singing " Kevin's coming home, he's coming home, he's coming home....."

Newcastle.....the eternal embarrassment of football in general and the NE in particular..... Hang your heads in shame! Mind you, you'll need to keep your heads low to see diddy Dennis Wise...the man who needed Gus Poyet to keep him in a job at Leeds and now soon to be your next manager......giggle, giggle...

If, as seems likely KK does leave NUFC, who could blame him? It's obvious he is not being allowed to manage the club. If he were, James Milner would not have left. What the new signings will make of it, God alone knows.
Sure the Mackems will laugh; they've had to put up with an awful lot in recent years, but at least they now have a manager who has the FULL support of his Chairman.

it was always on, he's always been a quitter,....he spit his dummy out this time because apparently someone nicked his pint at the weekend, number one suspect is an obese character wearing a Newcastle shirt, who looks like Bobby Hill. No way will Owen sign that extension now, he'll be away for free at the end of the season.

It wouldn't surprise me if Ashley waited until the transfer window closed to do this. Otherwise, there would have been an exodus yesterday of the few decent players they have left .. including Owen. It's certainly put Sunday's defeat at the SoL to the back of my mind!

All we need to do now is get relegated with 15/19pts (take your pick), fail to sell out our home games every week despite giving away 000's of tickets, sign up a host of reserve team players & call them big names, have strikers who can't hit a barn door, tell everyone we've played well when we can't even muster a shot on target, faill to turn up for derby games & NEVER win one at home (but it'll be different this time, blah blah blah). You see things could be worse. Aye man sewpa sunland, the fizzy pop league experts!! That's why they call me Terry Tibbs.... Good night

my gut feeling is Wise has been working at this behind the scenes for a while. He must have known Keegan wouldn't like players being bought and sold behind his back and would eventually resign leaving him in pole position to fill the vacancy.

scalpels.....u make me laugh how u make comments about how unsuccessful we are (NUFC)but yet we have been far more successful in the last ten years than u can ever dream of!!! firstly beatin u (safc) on regular occations, home and away. and secondly playin champions league football/uefa cup football.whereas what have sunderland been involved in....hmmmmm winning the championship....plea
se.that is not something to brag about by any means....it makes me laugh how u slate our club, but at the same same time u crave to be us!!!! we are still considered to be the best of the north-east,and the thought of that angers the mackams.u spent 30 million last season (mostly on rubbish) and u still fell behind us,and again spending 40 million this season, just to keep up with us,at the same time tryin to sign one of our top players!!! (duff)remember something,u are only a stepping stone for roy keane,he will be at united soon.but thats ok,because there is always big sam!!!!! yes there are problems with ashley and keegan, but they will get sorted one way or another, but looking past that we have a far stronger squad/better quality squad/entertaining squad than yours.u stick with your tottenham rejects,we will stick to signing argentinian internations.....enu

Yep Newcastle are in turmoil again but...
We dont go for 'step by step improvement i.e. bottom 3 again!!!
We don't know the first thing about the 'fizzy pop league i.e. need to ring Roy Keane and his part-time army for that news!!!
As for the next manager being 'Megson Pleat or McLaren' i.e. lets go big time instead wot about Mick Buxton, Dennis Smith or even the legend that is Malcolm Crosby!!!
Check out the tables!!!
