LEICESTER (4-4-1-1):

Schmeichel 6; Simpson 6 (Okazaki 57, 7), Morgan 5, Maguire 6, Chilwell 6; Mahrez 6, Iborra 6 (Choudhury 41, 6), Albrighton 5; DIABATE 7 (Gray 77, 6); Vardy 6.

Subs (not used): Jakupovic (gk), Iheanacho, Dragovic, Fuchs.

NEWCASTLE (4-4-2):

8 Dubravka: His bravery and confident handling in coming for crosses and commanding his box was a key feature of the win

7 Yedlin: Restricted Albrighton to a minor role and then got forward to support Ritchie on the overlap - hurt in challenge with Silva but battled on

8 Lejeune: Will be remembered for the sweeping clearance that saw Perez score the second goal but his immaculate defending was just as important

8 Lascelles: Produced a real captain's performance to keep Vardy quiet, always seeming to be in the right place at the right time

7 Dummett: Looked lucky to avoid conceding a penalty for his challenge on Mahrez but didn't allow it to bother him as he kept the winger quiet

8 Ritchie: One of Newcastle's unsung heroes - continually pressed and tackled while he was also a threat going forward

8 Shelvey: Based on this performance alone, you can see why he is so heavily touted for England - scored a superbly-taken goal

7 Diame: Played a supporting role to Shelvey but made numerous challenges to ensure Newcastle were never over-run

6 Kenedy: Not a game for him to shine- struggled to impose himself against former Magpies full-back Simpson

8 Perez: Scored a wonderfully-taken goal after setting up the first for Shelvey and could have had another with a glancing header

7 Gayle: A real pest to Morgan and Maguire, defending from the front with gusto. Curled a free kick just over.

Subs:

6 Atsu (for Kenedy, 64): Put himself about in a robust fashion

6 Joselu (for Gayle, 70): Continued Gayle's level of work-rate by pressuring Leicester's back line

Hayden (for Diame, 81)

(not used): Darlow (gk), Clark, Manquillo, Merino.

Man Of The Match:  JONJO SHELVEY - Coolness personified on the ball with his careful and imaginative passing, just edging the claims of the excellent Perez.
