NEWCASTLE UNDER-23s have reached the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup after claiming a 3-2 win over Bournemouth yesterday afternoon.
The last-16 tie was switched to Darsley Park as the reserves’ usual Whitley Park venue was waterlogged, and Bournemouth claimed the lead when Nnamdi Ofoborh scored from close range shortly after the half-hour mark.
Newcastle levelled at the start of the second half through Macaulay Gillesphey, but fell behind again shortly after when Mikael Ndjoli rounded goalkeeper Otto Huuhtanen to score.
The Magpies claimed a second equaliser when Luke Charman scored in the 55th minute, and were able to celebrate a dramatic win when Charman scored again with 12 minutes left, heading home Gillesphey’s cross.
Newcastle: Huuhtanen, Williams, Yarney, Good, Gillesphey, O’Connor, Hunter, Gallacher, Sangare, El-Mhanni, Charman.
