NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):
7 Elliot: Was a bystander for much of the game, but made fine second-half saves from Watkins and Lee to secure Newcastle’s clean sheet
7 Yedlin: Posed an attacking threat throughout the game and delivered a fine low cross for Perez’s opener
5 Hayden: Was forced off within the opening quarter-of-an-hour after suffering concussion following a collision with Elliot
7 Mbemba: Composed and assured at the heart of the back four and took his first Newcastle goal in a clinical fashion
6 Dummett: Shuffled across to fill in at centre-half after Hayden was forced off injured and looked at home in the role
7 Shelvey: Produced his usual share of effective long balls and has been a key figure in Newcastle’s success all season
7 Colback: Ensured Newcastle were in complete control of the central-midfield area, winning a large number of tackles
8 Atsu: Was the stand-out performer of the first half, helping set up Perez’s opener and twice going close himself
8 PEREZ: Opened the scoring with a superb back-heel flick and set up Mbemba’s goal with a smart shot that was well saved
6 Gouffran: One of Newcastle’s quieter performers, but has been an important factor since his surprise return to the team last autumn
6 Mitrovic: Set up Gayle’s late goal with a flicked header, but will have to improve if he is to make an impact in the Premier League next season
Subs:
6 Haidara (for Hayden, 13): Has barely been seen this season, but enjoyed his run out on the left-hand side
Diame (for Shelvey, 71)
Gayle (for Perez, 79)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Anita, Lazaar, Murphy.
BARNSLEY (4-5-1):
DAVIES 6; Janko 5, Jackson 4, MacDonald 5, Elder 4; Hedges 5 (Watkins 54, 4), Scowen 4, James 5, Kent 5 (Williams 74), Moncur 5; Bradshaw 4 (Lee 74).

Man Of The Match: AYOZE PEREZ – This hasn’t always been an easy season for the Spaniard, but his commitment and quality has shone through in the end.
