NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-3-2-1):
7 Darlow: Got nowhere near the penalty but otherwise did what he needed to do between the posts;
6 Anita: Had a tough task in containing van la Parra but brought greater solidity to the right hand side
8 LASCELLES: Marshalled the defence like a true skipper and made plenty blocks and clearances
7 Clark: Excellent alongside his captain at the heart of the defence to frustrate the Terriers
7 Dummett: Is playing consistently well to help Newcastle’s promotion push when it matters most;
6 Shelvey: Had to do more in a defensive sense than he would normally have to and didn’t see as much of the ball
7 Colback: Taken off over fears he could be sent off but was still tenacious and broke up things;
8 Ritchie: Would have liked to do more in the final third but he was excellent defensively and scored;
6 Diame: Worked hard enough again without having the freedom to do what he can to torment the home defence
6 Atsu: Another who would have liked more action going forward but that was how the game went;
7 Murphy: Isolated at times but the game plan worked to a tee with him leading the line and got his goal too
Subs:
Gayle (for Murphy 66): Goal number 21 was the easiest of the lot. 6
Gouffran (for Colback 72)
Yedlin (for Atsu 81)
(not used): Elliot (gk), Gamez, Hanley, Perez.
MAN OF THE MATCH: JAMAAL Lascelles – excellent from start to finish and displayed the sort of desire and determination that will lead Newcastle back to the Premier League.
