ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC’S impressive form continued over the weekend and he was tipped to hit even greater heights under Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez.

Mitrovic took his tally to seven goals in his last six matches by heading in a late equaliser for Serbia against Wales.

The 22-year-old is seen as a long term hope for the Serbs given his power, presence and eye for a goal and it is hoped he will continue to improve to fulfil his potential.

And Branislav Ivanovic, a Serbia team-mate, is certain Benitez possesses the managerial and coaching credentials at club level to help Mitrovic achieve his targets.

The Chelsea defender said: “He can improve a lot and we hope so because as a country we need that leader up front.

“He has a great manager who is good with young talent. He can learn every day and he needs to be strong.”

Mitrovic’s goal earned Serbia a point that keeps them second in World Cup qualifying Group D behind leaders Republic of Ireland.

Newcastle moved to sign the striker from Anderlecht in the summer of last year and he has scored four goals in his last three games for Newcastle.

The Magpies have maintained strong links with the Belgian club and it has emerged they are tracking teenage midfielder Youri Tielemans. Newcastle are also keeping tabs in Genk’s 19-year-old Wilfred Ndidi.
