DAVID MOYES is satisfied Sunderland’s players are trying to turn things around under his watch ahead of another testing Premier League fixture that could see them equal the worst Premier League start.

Moyes would love for his players to record a positive result and avoid reaching the ten-match stage winless and sitting on just two points.

But the Sunderland boss, who only took over in July, is adamant that all is not lost and that his players are showing signs of progress, suggesting they are capable of finding the winning formula.

“We could have been talking about a really good draw at West Ham last Saturday and us going through in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, and that was how close it was on both occasions,” he said.

“We have to take the positives from that – we were only seconds away from a point at West Ham and deserving of a replay at Southampton.

“The positives are that we've been in the game and they have been very close, unfortunately for us it has just tilted the other way.

“We need a bit of luck but we have to be aware of the saying you make your own luck. I have to say though that the players have done a lot of good things, they really have.

“Sometimes you need things to go for you – the offside not given or the penalty given and those decisions go your way. Simple things can often completely change the mood and the way things are perceived.”

The Black Cats face Arsenal at the Stadium of Light tomorrow lunch-time when the Gunners are looking to return to winning ways after being held at home to Middlesbrough last weekend. Another crowd in excess of 45,000 is expected.

Moyes does not have any players due to return from injury against Arsenal, although he revealed Adnan Januzaj has restarted full training and could be back next week.
