RAFAEL BENITEZ is still searching for his first win in the Championship after suffering a second successive defeat as Newcastle United boss.

Huddersfield Town spoiled the party for the 52,000 sell-out crowd at St James’ Park by leaving Tyneside with three points on another afternoon when Newcastle struggled to seriously threaten the opposition goal.

Terriers striker Nahki Wells curled David Wagner’s team in front just before half-time when he was afforded too much freedom in the Newcastle box by Jamaal Lascelles.

But Newcastle looked like they might go on to win it when £10m man Dwight Gayle headed his first goal for Newcastle just after the hour, having reacted to his own missed missed penalty.

Huddersfield, who had to defend well as Newcastle pressed before and after the winner, stunned St James’ when they reclaimed the lead eight minutes from time. Substitute Jack Payne scored with his first touch after being fed by Kasey Palmer to send the travelling supporters home happy.
