A terrific weekend for football in the North-East saw both Premier League clubs claim a massive three points towards each respective side’s quest towards safety.

Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat of Swansea City made if fifth time lucky for new boss Rafa Benitez and BetVictor reacted by cutting the Magpies to 10/3 (from 12s) to stay up and be playing top-flight football next term.

The performance gives Newcastle a massive boost heading into the climax of the campaign and that success, coupled with Sunderland turning over Norwich at Carrow Road, sees just three points separating the three sides at the foot of the table.

Premier League Relegation prices from BetVictor

Newcastle 1/6; Norwich ½; Sunderland 8/13

That 3-0 defeat of the Canaries sees Sunderland leapfrog them as favourites to stay up and BetVictor make the Black Cats a 5/4 chance to avoid relegation at the end of the campaign.

Manager Sam Allardyce got tactics spot-on at the weekend, with his side capitalising on two defensive errors from the hosts and being comfortable thereafter.

Sunderland are now 8/13 to be playing Championship football next term, which sees them marginal favourites from the pair of Norwich (1/2) and Newcastle (1/3) respectively.

Sunderland return to home soil at the weekend and are 21/5 underdogs when hosting Arsenal on Sunday; the visitors 8/11 favourites and the draw 3/1. The Black Cats have now lost just two of their last nine Premier League games and will fancy their chances of getting a result against Arsene Wenger’s side, appealing at 11/10 to get either one or three points against the Gunners.

Newcastle host Manchester City at St James’ Park on Tuesday, before travelling to Anfield on Saturday in what should prove two extremely difficult fixtures for the Magpies to get any sort of results from.

Sergio Aguero netted all three in City’s 3-0 defeat of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the weekend and City are 4/7 favourites to follow-up with a further three points on Tuesday; the Magpies 5/1 and the draw 14/5.

Benitez’s homecoming at Anfield should be quite a sight and BetVictor are 15/2 for the Spaniard to lead the club to success at a ground he enjoyed tremendous success with when manager of the Reds a decade prior - Liverpool 4/9 and the draw 4/1.
