SIEM DE JONG is set to start as a lone striker as Newcastle United take on Sheffield Wednesday in this evening's Capital One Cup third-round tie.
With Papiss Cisse injured and Aleksandar Mitrovic serving the final game of his three-match suspension, Steve McClaren has selected de Jong in attack ahead of Ayoze Perez, who is on the substitutes' bench.
In total, McClaren has made five changes from the side that lost to Watford at the weekend, the majority of which have been enforced.
Mike Williamson and Jamaal Lascelles are set to line up in a new-look central defensive partnership, with Chancel Mbemba moving across to left-back.
Georginio Wijnaldum will partner Jack Colback at the base of midfield, with Moussa Sissoko expected to start in the central attacking midfield position.
Florian Thauvin is expected to start on the right, with Gabriel Obertan coming back into the team on the left of midfield.
McClaren has named youngsters Ivan Toney, Kevin Mbabu and Dan Barlaser on the substitutes' bench.
