DAVID SANTON may have played his last game for Newcastle United, with reports linking the full-back with a return to Inter Milan.

The Magpies are not expecting a busy transfer deadline day, but Italian media were reporting that the defender will sign for Roberto Mancini’s side on Monday on loan until the end of the season with a view to a 4m Euros transfer.

The deal is understood to be structured in a similar fashion to the one that saw Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa move initially on loan to Roma, before making 20 appearances for Rudi Garcia's side which triggered a £5.5m move for the Frenchman.

The 24-year-old Santon signed for Newcastle from Inter in 2011 in a £5m deal, and made 88 appearances in all competitions. His last game for the club came in the FA Cup third round exit at Leicester City, with the Italian missing most of the season up to that point with a knee injury.
