PAPISS CISSE will fly in to join the rest of the Newcastle United squad today after interim boss John Carver pushed for the Senegal striker’s return ahead of the trip to Hull City.

Cisse is one of four Senegalese internationals due back in the country after Newcastle and three other clubs worked pressed to have them back before this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures.

Newcastle’s top-scorer, West Ham’s Cheikhou Kouyate, Southampton’s Saido Mane and Stoke City’s Mame Biram Diouf are all now expected back to England after the Senegal FA learned how frustrated the English clubs were at possibly being without them for a further game.

Carver, Sam Allardyce, Ronald Koeman and Mark Hughes had all let it be known that they wanted their players back and there had been tentative discussions about hiring a private jet fly to fly them back.

The four bosses’ wishes to have the players up for selection at the earliest opportunity following Senegal’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Equitorial Guinea appears to have been granted; even if the private plane was not required.

Carver, who has been short of striker options this month, wanted to have the nine-goal forward in his squad for tomorrow’s trip to Hull, where the head coach is looking for his first win in five games.

“We're trying to get him back,” said Carver. “The Senegal FA haven’t been too helpful and we’re not happy about that. Southampton, West Ham and Stoke are also trying to get their players back. Hopefully he’ll be available for the weekend.”

He added: “First of all, we’ve been trying to get in touch with him and it hasn’t been easy. But I have spoken to his agent and I have left a message with Papiss. Hopefully he’ll be back for Friday, meet us in the hotel Friday night and be involved Saturday. He hasn’t had a great deal of football when he’s been over.”

Cisse’s return to the fold comes at a time when Newcastle have dropped out of the top ten.

He said: “Papiss is hugely important. We were 2-0 down against Hull earlier in the season and he came on and got the two goals. He’s our top goalscorer and the only way you are going to win football matches is by having your top goalscorer around.

“I think he’s fit. He came on against Algeria on Wednesday night, I didn’t really watch it but Steve Stone (assistant) watched a bit of it and said he was there in the right areas to get a goal.”

There has been talk of Cisse moving this month, with Shanghai boss Sven-Goran Eriksson interested in taking him to China. Carver, however, will not be thinking too much about the transfer window closing on Monday night; although he did suggest he does not expect incoming or outgoing deals.

He said: “My role is a head coach. I’m not interested in who is coming in or who is going out. I have to say I have done a similar job once before in America, and my role was exactly the same. So I am working under these conditions and I understand it.

“My role is to get the team right, pick the team and get results, not get involved in anything outside of that. There are people in positions to deal with that, so if you have got anything to come at me on that, there is nothing for me to give you. I am concentrating on the team and that’s it.”

Carver stated that he has not felt Moussa Sissoko’s head has been turned following talk of a firm offer from Paris St Germain for his services.

He said: “This is how I deal with it - if you see the way he trains and the way he is playing, I am telling you now he is going nowhere. Unless somebody comes in with a ridiculous amount of money, he is going nowhere.

“He is focused and he has got his mind on the job. He has been absolutely first class. It annoys me when you see a player who has been tapped up by somebody else, and he doesn’t train properly or perform properly.”

Carver – who said that he does inform the boardroom of positions he feels need strengthening – is satisfied with the squad he has available; particularly with Gabriel Obertan and Mehdi Abeid in contention this week after injury.

But is he capable of leading Newcastle to a top ten finish being demanded by owner Mike Ashley? Carver, whose chances of keeping the job could rest on such a finish, said: “I am quite excited now, and I know that is a bit of a pressurised question on me. But I believe I can.

“I believe with the players coming back into the squad now, because other than Steven Taylor who is out long term, we have almost got everyone close within two or three weeks, give or take not losing anybody; with a fully fit squad, why not.”
