JONAS GUTIERREZ has been discharged from hospital after winning his battle against testicular cancer.
Gutierrez was given the all-clear in his native Argentina this evening, having disclosed in September that he had been receiving chemotherapy treatment to treat his cancer.
The 31-year-old midfielder discovered the problem after experiencing a great deal of pain following a challenge with Bacary Sagna on the final day of the 2012-13 season, and was given permission to return to South America for his treatment and rehabilitation.
Tonight, he tweeted: “Today I was given a medical discharge. Thank you very much to all who accompanied me at this time, especially my family, parents, brothers, godmother, friends and @alemaglietti.”
Football fans from across the country were quick to tweet their own messages of support, and Newcastle United’s official social media feed said: “Everyone at NUFC is delighted to share the news that @elgalgojonas (Gutierrez) has been discharged from hospital in Argentina.”
