THE clamour for Middlesbrough's play off final game at Wembley saw almost 17,000 tickets sold in under four hours.

Season card holders and Boro pride members had the chance to buy their tickets over the weekend with the remaining offered for general sale this morning (Monday, May 18).

However, the opportunity to buy the final batch of tickets was suspended after thousands were sold within hours of going on general sale.

The remaining allocation will be up for grabs tomorrow (Tuesday) morning when season ticket holders will have a three-hour window before being opened up to the general public.

With Boro set to play Norwich on Bank Holiday Monday for a coveted place in the Premier League, fans were queuing online and on the phone for hours to snap up the tickets.

A statement on the club's website read: "Ticket sales to Boro fans for the Championship Play-Off final have now been suspended.

"We sold almost 17,000 tickets in four hours on Monday morning and all tickets currently available have now been sold. A number have been held as a contingency for Season Card Holders who have yet to buy."

The South Stand Ticket Office will be open for Season Card Holders only on Tuesday between 9.30am and 12.30pm for those who have not yet purchased their personal ticket.

Any unsold tickets will be put back on general sale online and by telephone at 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
