AITOR KARANKA has confirmed Middlesbrough are considering taking action over an incident in which Sheffield Wednesday captain Jose Semedo was alleged to have spat at Grant Leadbitter.

Semedo produced an angry reaction from the Boro captain and the travelling fans as the substitute waited to take a 64th-minute free-kick.

The incident erupted into a melee just outside Wednesday’s box and the Owls captain was subsequently booked for an altercation that also saw Lee Tomlin cautioned. It is unknown whether the incident was included in referee Stephen Martin’s match report, who did consult his assistant at the time.

After it is claimed Leadbitter complained he was spat, although neither manager would comment on the incident post-match.

However, Karanka confirmed at his lunchtime press conference to preview tomorrow night’s match against Millwall at the Riverside Stadium that the club is considering taken further action.

“We are going to work (on it) but I prefer not to say anything because I don't know what the steps are here and can't say one thing because maybe I make a mistake.

“Grant and the club are working and let's see but I prefer not to say anything.”

The Teessiders will be hoping to put their second defeat in three games behind them tomorrow night and Jelle Vossen could return after recovering from concussion.

The Boro head coach has no other injury problems ahead of the game, which presents his side with another opportunity to strengthen their position in the automatic promotion race.
