Goal: 1-0: Adomah (34, slotted home after Tomlin’s perfectly-judged through ball released him through the middle)
Bookings: Dervite (67, foul), Janko (68, foul), Kike (90, foul), Heskey (90, unsporting behaviour)
Referee: Andrew Madley (Ossett) – Kept his cards in his pocket for the majority of the evening, and didn’t have a particularly contentious decision to make 6
Attendance: 16,569
Entertainment: **
MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1):
7 Konstantopoulos: Didn’t have a lot to do, but commanded his area effectively and claimed a succession of late crosses
6 Fredericks: Started shakily with a tentative back-pass, but improved thereafter and was always resolute
7 Kalas: Looked the part at centre-half as he refused to be bullied by Heskey and read the game effectively throughout
8 GIBSON: Has banished the memory of his Birmingham blip with his last two displays and was always in calm control of things
7 Friend: Threw himself into challenges with plenty of relish and ensured the lively Janko was successfully contained
7 Leadbitter: Was always the player urging his team-mates forward and looked to get Boro on the front foot with his passing play
6 Clayton: Covered plenty of ground in the central area, but didn’t have his most effective evening in terms of linking the attacking play
7 Adomah: Cut infield to decent effect and held his nerve impressively to convert the opener and end a lengthy goal drought
8 Tomlin: Produced the two best moments of the game with his back-heel to release Leadbitter and his through ball for the goal
6 Reach: Only really burst into life sporadically, although delivered one excellent first-half cut-back to set up Bamford
4 Bamford: It wasn’t his evening as he spurned a succession of decent openings – for once, appeared to be snatching at his chances
Subs: Kike (for Bamford, 75), Forshaw (for Reach, 75). Not used: Mejias (gk), Omeruo, Whitehead, Carayol, Wildschut.
BOLTON (4-4-2): Amos 6; Vela 6, Dervite 6, WHEATER 7, Moxey 6; Janko 6 (Le Fondre 82), Danns 5, Bannan 6, Feeney 5; Gudjohnsen 4 (Clough 71), Heskey 4.
Subs (not used): Fitzsimmons (gk), Twardzik, Threlkeld, Slavchev, Walker.
Man Of The Match: BEN GIBSON – The Middlesbrough centre-half led the line impressively and ensured neither Heskey nor Gudjohnsen were able to fashion an opening
