TRANSFER TALK: Who do you think should be Sunderland's first choice targets in the
summer? Which positions do you feel the club need to strengthen? • Share your views here |
Newcastle Utd 1 Middlesbrough 1
ANOTHER decent away day and a six-match unbeaten run - even if Newcastle had looked like bringing that to an end here.
After Michael Owen's first half header, Boro could have folded. Instead they regrouped and attacked the hosts and were deserving of the point they took down the A19 to Teesside.
Robert Huth's late equaliser ensured the point they craved was forthcoming and while top-flight status is still not assured, there is every chance it soon could be given their current form.
And with Afonso Alves on his way for a club record fee to boost Middlesbrough's attacking options, manager Gareth Southgate knows his team could soon be safe.
Southgate now has his side playing entertaining football and if more goals can be found from somewhere then an alarming fall down the table should not resurface.
And with the league situation looking stronger, it also gives Middlesbrough and opportunity to look towards the FA Cup fifth round tie at Sheffield United in a more relaxed mood.
