TRANSFER TALK: Who do you think should be Sunderland's first choice targets in the
summer? Which positions do you feel the club need to strengthen? • Share your views here |
Middlesbrough 1 Wigan 0
JEREMIE ALIADIERE has found the net at the Riverside Stadium, perhaps this is the start of something bright for Middlesbrough.
The Frenchman has proven himself to be a very decent footballer since his summer switch from Arsenal, although scoring goals has been something of a problem.
It is a similar problem which he has faced throughout his time in British football. But, nine years after arriving in North London, Aliadiere finally looks like proving himself as a top-flight performer.
The 24-year-old's match-winning goal against the Latics was only his third Premier League goal of his career, two of those have been for Boro.
And if this is the start of a decent run of fortune in front of the posts, then Middlesbrough's battle for survival will be seriously boosted.
With Afonso Alves sat in the stands, Aliadiere's own display against Wigan will have offered encouragement to manager Gareth Southgate.
Premier League football looks to be on the agenda again at the Riverside next season and that could well be down to the performances of Aliadiere and Alves come May.
