WITH Middlesbrough set to host Team GB’s one and only warm-up match before the London Olympic Games kicks off next month, football fans are being given the chance to watch the double header at the Riverside for as little as £20.

Boro will host both the men’s and women’s games on Friday, July 20, when Hope Powell’s side take on Sweden at 4pm followed by a showpiece clash between Stuart Pearce’s men and Brazil at 7.45pm.

The decision to hold the warm-up games at the Riverside is a major coup for Boro and the North-East, and will give fans from across the region the unique chance to watch Team GB in action before the Games get under way.

Tickets for the games go on sale at 9am on Monday and are priced at £20 for adults, £15 for Over-65s and £10 for Under-16s.

Newcastle United’s St James’ Park is an Olympic football venue, but Pearce’s side will play their Olympic matches in Manchester, London and Cardiff, meaning the warm-up games will be the only chance for the North- East to see both teams in action.

That squad is expected to include former Manchester United and England captain David Beckham along with Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy, who has already confirmed his place in the squad.

And Boro fans will hope to see Jason Steele involved, after the club were informed he is in the latest 35-man squad that has been submitted to FIFA. The England Under-21 keeper now faces an anxious to see if he is in the final 18-man squad, which will be confirmed early next month.

Sunderland’s Fraizer Campbell is also tipped to be part of the squad, which will be based at Boro’s Rockliffe Park training ground during their time in the North-East.

Boro are hoping the prospect of watching such a unique match will attract a large crowd to the Riverside and supporters are being offered the chance to watch the likes of Beckham, Giggs and Brazilian star Neymar for a great price.

“We’re very proud we’ve been chosen to host such prestigious games,” said Middlesbrough FC Chief Executive Neil Bausor.

“This is a unique opportunity to see the Olympic teams here at the Riverside.

“It’s a chance to see exciting world stars in action and we’re sure demand for tickets will be enormous, not only in the North-East but further afield as well.

“We would strongly urge people to get their seats as early as possible to be sure of being there for this historic occasion.”

Boro have ensured that ticket purchase options are maximised in giving fans the opportunity to buy tickets in either person, online or by phone.

However, supporters are asked to be patient when tickets go on sale on Monday as demand is expected to be huge.
