IT would be an absolute masterstroke if Newcastle United could pull off a loan move for Liverpool's Andy Carroll.
The English striker who cost £35m might not have had the best of times at Liverpool, but he's shown enough in the last few months to remind everyone of his qualities.
Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool boss, has clearly made up his mind that he doesn't want the Geordie striker near his team next season.
For the sake of Carroll's career, let's hope he can secure a move quickly. Even if the initial offer has been knocked back, there's still time for a change of heart.
He's a player who clearly needs to feel confident to perform - and fully fit. A drawn out transfer saga is not going to suit him or Rodgers.
And at Newcastle he is sure to feel at home quickly, so that could be the best move all round.
The subject of finance needs to be sorted out first - and hopefully fast.
