VIKTOR FISCHER wants to build on his second Premier League outing of the season after feeling like he has offered Middlesbrough something different.

Aitor Karanka, the head coach, played the Danish forward in a central attacking midfield role behind Jordan Rhodes on Saturday at West Ham United.

Fischer played for almost an hour there before he was replaced by Gaston Ramirez but he was satisfied with his performance, even if he thinks there is more to come from him in a Middlesbrough shirt.

The 22-year-old’s only other start since arriving from Ajax in a £3.8m deal in the summer was as a winger in the defeat to Crystal Palace; when again he was taken off just under 60 minutes in.

Fischer said: "It was a chance to prove that it was my place on Saturday. I have worked insanely hard in training, and the results have not completely gone for the team in the other matches.

"It was a golden opportunity to prove that I can be something else, and I can give something to the team. I think it went really well, but there are also many things that need to be improved. I have to hold on to the momentum I have now.”

Fischer – set to face Poland on Saturday and Montenegro three days later for his country - is regarded more as a left-winger but the consistent performances of Stewart Downing have made it more difficult for him to play there.

He has also operated in a more central position for Denmark in recent matches, while he has also previously played there in the past.

Fischer has had to bide his time so far on Teesside but feels he is coming to terms with life there and is eager to impress in a Boro shirt in the Premier League.

He said: “It is very different (to Ajax). It is a port city, a factory town. You feel that in the stadium. It's part of the club logo which you carry every week.

“You know the type of people who come to the stadium and you know that they are workers who love their football team. We just try to give everything to make them and us happy.”
