MIDDLESBROUGH will play Stoke City at the Riverside Stadium when they get their first season back in the Premier League underway.

Boro have been handed the home start on August 13 in a fixture that will see them play in the top-flight for the first time in seven years.

The first Wear-Tees derby with Sunderland will follow at the Stadium of Light the following week with the return at the Riverside pencilled in for March 11.

Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka will come up against his mentor Jose Mourinho when they face Manchester United on New Year’s Eve at Old Trafford.

They will also be heading to Burnley on Boxing Day and they will close the campaign with a trip to face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield on May 21.

Other interesting dates will see Middlesbrough play West Ham at the Olympic Stadium for the first time on October 1 and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will be the opposition on November 5 at the Etihad.

The Football League will start a week earlier than the Premier League, with Newcastle United and Hartlepool United's games due to be announced next week.
