MIDDLESBROUGH have decided not to push through with initial plans to hold a promotion parade through the town later this week.

It has emerged that the tough decision has been made because the logistics of such a party around Teesside have made it too difficult to turnaround before the end of the week.

Several figures – including head coach Aitor Karanka - are heading on prearranged trips and it is also felt the events of the last few days have provided a fitting end.

A club spokesman said: “The town and the team have had an amazing party over the weekend and we don’t think you can top that.

“Promotion has been a great achievement and we all celebrated as a club – players and fans – at the Riverside Stadium and that was a very emotional moment.

“I know a lot of people expected something more formal but it hasn’t been possible to organise it in time. The logistics and the timescale made it difficult to arrange quickly.

“And we have several key figures including some players and the manager who will not be available as he has a previous commitment in Spain. Other players have been given permissions to leave on holiday.

"Then maybe you have missed the moment. We have achieved our aim, we have had our party and now we are focused on the hard work to come.”
