MIDDLESBROUGH have confirmed the signing of striker Jordan Rhodes - a day after talks with the Scotland international broke down.

Rhodes has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at the Riverside, and moves for an initial fee of £9m, which could rise to £13m if a series of clauses are met.

The 25-year-old returned to Blackburn on Sunday evening after talks broke down because of a failure to agree personal terms, but a series of early-morning discussions resulted in a compromise agreement.

Rhodes travelled back across the Pennines and, with a medical already completed, was finally able to agree personal terms and sign his new contract an hour or so ago.

Rhodes first burst to prominence when he was the Football League’s leading scorer in the 2011-12 season as he helped fire Huddersfield Town to promotion from League One.

He scored 87 goals in 148 appearances during a three-year stint at Huddersfield, prompting Blackburn to splash out £8m for his services in August 2012.

He scored 85 goals in 169 appearances for the Ewood Park club, and boasts 11 goals during the current campaign, including a run of seven in five games earlier in the season.
