MIDDLESBROUGH youngster Bryn Morris dreams of captaining England to glory.

And Hartlepool-born Morris has skippered his country on his last 29 appearances – a record - and his next cap could end in Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup success; if they overcome old foes Germany.

England’s Under-20s face the Germans on Tuesday and victory will see them win the competition but Morris is not taking anything for granted.

He said: "The squad has so many good players in it so I’m going to have to work hard before then to try and earn a spot in the team before I can even think about captaining the side again.

"It’s always a great honour captaining your country and it would make it even more special if I was to do it whilst beating Germany to win the competition.

"I’ve only ever won the Victory Shield with England, so to win something again would be great - that’s what every kid dreams of. It might only be a friendly tournament, but that would be something new for me and if we can make it three wins out of three that would top off a good tournament."

Morris, on loan at Coventry City, was part of England’s team which won their opening game against Holland last Wednesday.

Boro’s Under-18s, meanwhile, lost 3-2 to Everton at Rockliffe Park. Mitchell Curry and Alex Pattison scored for Middlesbrough, while Marcus Tavernier was red carded with just 15 minutes gone.
