STEWART DOWNING will make his first appearance at the Riverside in more than six years in Middlesbrough’s final pre-season friendly against Getafe today.

The former West Ham man, who moved from Upton Park in a £7m deal earlier this month, looks set to start behind lone striker Kike in the No 10 role against Getafe.

Teenage defender Dael Fry, an England youth international, has a chance to stake a claim to start the season at centre-back alongside Daniel Ayala in the absence of Ben Gibson.

Middlesbrough’s other summer signing on show is Diego Fabbrini following his move from Watford, while Christian Stuani has not received clearance to play from the FA.

Spanish side Getafe field Sunderland loanee Santiago Vergini in the side following his season long loan switch from the Stadium of Light.
