Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka has been charged with miscondct following Saturday's game against Blackburn Rovers.

The match ended with Karanka being sent from the technical area by referee Mark Clattenburg after the Spaniard reacted furiously to Rovers' late leveller.

They equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time, though Boro felt goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos was fouled in the seconds before the crucial goal.

Referring to Karanka, an FA statement released today read: "It is alleged that his behaviour during stoppage time at the end of the fixture amounted to improper conduct."

Karanka has until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charge.

The news comes on the same day that Karanka's assistant Craig Hignett left the club with immediate affect.
