Sunderland 0 Chelsea 1
SUNDERLAND fans may have written this fixture off in terms of gaining points in the relegation run-in prior to the first whistle being blown.
But, after former Premier League champions Chelsea left the Stadium of Light with a narrow victory, there will definitely be a sense of what might have been.
Not many teams this season will be able to say that they registered more shots on goal than their most illustrious opponents. That, though, is exactly what happened here.
Chelsea were well off the boil and looked as if they were all still thinking about Friday's favourable Champions League draw, which paired them with Fenerbahce in the quarter-finals.
Sunderland spent the majority of the second half camped in the Blues half, but the equaliser never arrived.
Kenwyne Jones was the main culprit for missing chances. Two fell to him the final 15 minutes.
In the end, John Terry's tenth minute header was enough to keep Chelsea's title challenge alive.
While Sunderland's promising display has done little to boost their survival chances. Two points still separates the Black Cats from the bottom three.
