FOR RONNIE Moore, the hard work has now started. A week after the season ended and two weeks after their Football League future was secured, Moore is busy trying to reshape his squad.

With a welter of players out of contract, Moore has began the task of talking to his squad and informing individuals if they have a future at the club.

The retained list is likely to be announced in the middle of next week, such is the raft of changes Moore has to weigh up.

Attracting players to Victoria Park proved a problem during the season, with Moore utilising the loan market.

The Pools boss said last week he wants to sign up to eight players this summer and he admitted: “The work starts now, there’s a lot of work to be done at the club. It’s massive. There’s a lot players we can get rid of, a few will go and we need to use the money to bring players in.

“Quite a few will be let go, but you’ve got to thank them – not for the mess we are in, but for getting out of it.

“As a club we have to move on and make sure we aren’t in this position again. It’s down to me and Sam Collins and the recruitment and the players we can get in.’’

He added: “It’s going to a long summer for us all and I’ve not booked to go away at all on holiday and I want it all sorted. Hopefully we can try and put ourselves in the proper half of the table and maybe push further.

“Getting players in should be easier – it’s always hard to get players to come up here. With us being a league club, a lot of players will be let go and looking for work. It’s about being lucky and trying to get in there early and we have set one or two things away already that can hopefully get one or two strikers in nice and quickly before things happen.

“So we are already working to get that part right.’’

Two former Pools players, Luke James and Christian Burgess have been made available for transfer by Peterborough.

James signed for Posh on transfer deadline day last August for a fee of £500,000 plus add ons, but has only scored two goals in 34 outings.

Burgess spent last season on loan at Pools from Middlesbrough, but while then boss Colin Cooper was keen to sign him permanently he was snapped up by Posh.

Both players signed four-year contracts.

Posh chairman Darragh McAntony said: “Luke is a great lad, but we need two strikers capable of scoring 40 goals between them next season. I’d rather he went out on loan next season, scored lots of goals and came back to us on fire, but he is available for transfer as things stand.’’
