Forest substitute sinks Pools at Victoria Park
HARTLEPOOL United's home campaign ended with a defeat, as promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest won 1-0 at Victoria Park - Pools third successive home loss.
The only goal came in the closing minutes, visiting substitute Lewis McGugan finishing well from 20 yards, curling his shot in the corner of the net with keeper Arran Lee-Barrett beaten.
After a fairly drab opening half, the game came to life in the second half as both sides chased a winner.
But Pools failed to really trouble visiting keeper Paul Smith, the best they managed was a couple of shots from distance which were comfortable for the shot stopper.
At the other end, Nathan Tyson twice wastefully headed over, while Kris Commons sidefooted wide after Tyson set him up.
Victory keeps Forest in the promotion frame going into the final game of the season.
But for Pools, it may have been the last Victoria Park sees of Joel Porter. The Aussie striker, who looks set to leave the club this summer with his contract up for renewal, lasted just ten minutes of the game as he hobbled off with a knee problem.
