Pools’ Healy bid rejected

HARTLEPOOL United have had a bid rejected for former Sunderland midfielder Colin Healy.

The Irishman, along with Cork City team-mate Denis Behan, was part of a double approach rebuffed.

Cork have been suffering financial difficulties and are battling a winding up order over unpaid taxes.

But the offer was yesterday described as “derisory” in the Irish press.

Healy spent three years at Sunderland after being signed from Celtic in 2003, but suffered two broken legs.

Behan, 25, has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at various junior levels.

Pools have also missed out on Stockport’s Michael Rose.

The left-back was set to sign last week, until the prospective new owners at Edgeley Park scuppered the deal.

Rose had been told he could leave the club, but with the club about to exit administration the consortium taking over refused to sanction the deal.

“I was on the verge of signing for Hartlepool this summer.

I went up there and agreed terms,” he said.

“If Jim Gannon was staying here, I didn’t want to be here.

But I managed to speak to Jim Melrose and he told me that he wanted me to stay.”

Pools boss Chris Turner could resurrect his interest in Manchester City’s Ryan Mc- Givern, but Leicester are also interested in the Northern Irish international.

Turner has already made five new signings this season and, ahead of the club’s preseason trip to Holland on Sunday, could have more new recruits to his squad.

“I personally think that where we are as a football club, change was needed,’’ said Turner.

“I think change at this moment in time is a good thing.

It’s good for the supporters because they don’t want to keep seeing the same players every year.

“They want to see new blood and a difference from last season.

“The only way we could have got a difference is by bringing in new players and one or two other things we will change.’’
