Barker in line for shock first team return at the Vic today
RICHARD Barker is in line for
quick return to action this
afternoon.
The leading scorer, with 16
goals this season, suffered
medial knee ligament damage
in the win at Oldham on March
2. And while there were fears
that he would be out for the
season, the targetman returned
to training last week, putting
him in contention for a spot
against Yeovil at Victoria Park
this afternoon.
With James Brown making
his comeback from a knee
problem in Saturday's defeat at
Crewe and Ben Clark now
available again, Danny Wilson
has a full compliment of
players to choose from.
"James got half an hour and
we needed to change it because
the ball wasn't sticking up
top,'' he said. "Everybody
keeps knocking Richard
Barker, but he keeps the ball
up there and allows us to get
from A to B and get support up
there for him while he holds it
up.
"We couldn't keep the ball
and it kept coming back at us.
For all his weaknesses that is
what he does for you, that's
what he did last year when he
came in and it was what we
needed.
"He came in and did really
well and everyone has to learn
from that. He takes the hits
and people have to be prepared
to do that.
"Thankfully he will be
available for Monday. He's
come back quite quickly and I
could have gambled with him
on Saturday, but I didn't want
to - but he's in the squad for
Monday.''
Wilson included teenage
midfielder Jonny Rowell in his
travelling party on Saturday.
